Two people have been arrested for selling stolen onions at cheaper prices while onion prices dropped. Two youths were selling Rs 10 a kg onion in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. Indian daily Amar Ujala writes that they are now arrested. Surprised by the rising price of onions, these two youths stole an onion worth Rs 60,000. Then they started selling this onion for 10 to 20 rupees a kg.
As the noise of selling cheap onions went, a crowd of people gathered to buy cheap ones. On the cheap, people bought onions immediately. The two were able to sell the whole onion in just a few hours. According to police, two youths named Ajay Jatav and Jitu Valmiki entered a warehouse in the city. Both stole large quantities of garlic and onions. They had stolen 12 sacks of 50 kg onions and 2 sacks of garlic.
Both youths were produced in court on Tuesday from where both have been remanded to police custody. According to police, both the youths were arrested after searching. Both have also confessed to the crime. The accused said they had stolen after they were surprised by the rising price of onions.
